ICHMGEP 2020
Welcome to The 2nd International Conference on Hazard Mitigation
in Geographic and Education Perspectives (ICHMGEP)
BACKGROUND
The world's population continues to increase from time to time. By 2022, the world's population will have reached 7.96 billion, which is widely spread around the globe with a variety of diverse life activities. The increase in population will encourage the need for living space and demand for natural resources. The pressure of anthropogenic activities on the environment is a problem that cannot be ignored. On the other hand, an increase in population is also one of the triggers for an increase in disaster risk. A large population will increase vulnerability to disasters if it is not balanced with high coping capacity. Experience during the COVID-19 pandemic also shows that there has been an excess in deaths due to the outbreaks, where anthropogenic activity is one of the determining factors that need attention.
In this regard, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Geographer Society, will hold The 3rd International Conference on Hazard Mitigation in Geographic and Education Perspectives 2022 (The 3rd ICHMGEP) with the theme: "Anthropogenic Leverage on Environmental Change and Disaster Management." This conference is the third edition, as a continuation of The 1st ICHMGEP in 2018 and The 2nd ICHMGEP in 2020, which have successfully published hundreds of works in reputable international proceedings. The 3rd ICHMGEP 2022 provides a platform for researchers, lecturers, students, practitioners, and scientists to showcase their latest findings in areas of expertise, including geoscience, environment, science and technology innovation, mapping and technological innovation, and others. Also, this conference aims to disseminate original research results, new ideas, innovations, and practical experiments for science advancement and society's welfare.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) is a university conveniently located in Sleman District of the Yogyakarta Special Territory. Despite its relatively new status as a university, UNY still maintains a strong reputation as an educational institution which not only produces professional teachers and caters for the education sector but has now expanded into the fields of non-educational sector together in each faculty. In view of that, in order to have scientific encounters of inter-disciplines in educational and non-educational fields and to produce professional and qualified teachers besides qualified graduates of non-educational programs, UNY consciously and responsibly continues to improve itself, both internally and externally. Internally, the academic members of UNY continually work to consolidate and qualitatively improve its human and non-human resources. Externally, UNY tries to extend the cooperation networks to related parties in local, regional, national, and international levels.
Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has been established as part of the dynamic organizational development of Indonesian higher educational institutions in response to fast-changing societal demands. It is shown in the dynamic changes of its organization structure, starting from its establishment in 1964 until nowadays.
Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (originally IKIP Yogyakarta) was founded on 21st May 1964. IKIP Yogyakarta was a merger of two educational institutions: the Faculty of Pedagogy of Gadjah Mada University and the Teacher Education Institute. These two institutions catered for education science and teacher education. The merger itself was regulated by the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number I/1963. The conversion of IKIP Yogyakarta into a university was based on some considerations such as the observations that the organizational structure of educational institution was too limited to support scientific development and that the number of graduates of IKIP Yogyakarta succeeding who enter non-teaching job markets also increased.
The early stage of the conversion of IKIP Yogyakarta into a university began with the opening of 12 non-educational study programs at the S-1 and D-III levels in the Faculty of Languages and Arts Education, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education, and the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Education.
